Trailer Analysis

The typical codes and conventions of the Happening trailer are Key points of the film but not crucial plot details, Title of the film and the release date, usually towards the end of the trailer; the main stars of the film are put on screen early in the trailer, the director or producers name is included, Powerful voice-over that draws attention to the key points of the film On screen text and music that can suggest genre, style and plot. The target audience of the film would be teenagers and young adults. The trailer does give away clues about the narrative, and also the stars in the film, Zooey Deschanel and Mark Wahlberg. The director’s name appears in the end of the trailer but there Is no information about them given. The release date of the film is displayed clearly across the screen near to the end of the trailer. I don’t think the narrator’s voice is over used, we also hear the stars in the film talking and we can easily understand what the movie is going to be about. The genre of the film has been represented through the body language of the people in the trailer the way they act and way they talk makes it very obvious that they are scared. The lighting throughout the trailer is quite dark and there are not really any scenes that look really pleasant or aesthetically pleasing. The music in the start of the trailer is quite slow, and during the trailer is gets faster and faster as the plot unfolds…the camera movements to the same thing as the music, some parts are slow but some just flash on the screen quickly which is very affective and fits in with the genre of the film. You get a much better idea of what the film is about from the trailer than from the poster. The people talking in the trailer really tell you about the storyline of the movie, making it much easier to understand, whereas in the poster you cannot really guess what the movie is going to be about as the picture is quite simple and doesn’t give anything away. You can get quite a lot of extra information from the trailer, for example the relationships between the main characters in the movie, you see the family that the film will be based around and you will be following throughout the movie. I think all of the information that you get from the trailer makes it more desirable because you want to find out everything that happens, because the trailer leaves you on a cliff-hanger and we also don’t really know all of the details of what is actually happening. The advantages of using an internet trailer to promote a film over using a poster campaign is more people will see it, everyone uses the internet now and if your trailer is all over the internet on different websites people are guaranteed to see it. Also people of all ages use the internet to no matter what your target audience is they will view it. Whereas if your poster was just at a bus stop people are not really going to take much notice of it.
